Back to back means one handle fixes on the outside of door and is attached to another handle mounted on the inside of the door using a connecting bolt drilled through the door.

If you have double doors you will need 2 pairs.

Fitting Instructions

1.All 304 stainless steel parts in the product are made of pipes with 1.2mm wall thickness.

2.All handles can be installed on glass doors,wood doors and frame doors.

3.All handles fittings(screws,counter shaft plugs.etc) are made of stainless steel and copper.

4.12mm~14mm handle installation holes are suggested on glass doors.

5.Clean the handles at least once a week.

Back To Back Fixing (Acquiescent)

1. Mark fixing position on door. Ensure adequate space is provided for clearance of knuckles on door jamb.

2. Drill holes for through bolts.(For glass doors, allow for neoprene sleeves)

3. Mount outside handle by bolting through door (feet on leg ends are optional). Include the brass mounting bush for inside handle. (only use neoprene sleeves and washers for glass doors)

4. Fix inside handle over brass mounting bush and fasten with grub screws.

Single Handle Rear Fix

1. Mark fixing position on door. Ensure adequate space is provided for clearance of knuckles on door jamb.

2. Drill holes for through bolts.

3. Mount handle by bolting through door.

Single Handle Face Fix

1. Mark fixing position on door. Ensure adequate space is provided for clearance of knuckles on door jamb.

2. Screw mounting bases to face of door using large screws supplied.

3. Fix handle over brass mounting bush and fasten with grub screws.

Note: Face fixing is not recommended on Cedar or other soft timber doors.

The mechanism by which Antimicrobial Copper kills bacteria is complex by nature, but the effect is simple. The questions and answers below summarise active and ongoing research seeking to explain how Antimicrobial Copper is the most effective touch surface.

How does copper affect bacteria?

Science suggests that copper surfaces affect bacteria in two sequential steps: the first step is a direct interaction between the surface and the bacterial outer membrane, causing the membrane to rupture. The second is related to the holes in the outer membrane, through which the cell loses vital nutrients and water, causing a general weakening of the cell.1

How can copper punch holes in a bacterium?

Every cells outer membrane, including that of a single cell organism like a bacterium, is characterised by a stable electrical micro-current. This is often called transmembrane potential, and is, literally, a voltage difference between the inside and the outside of a cell. It is strongly suspected that when a bacterium comes in contact with a copper surface, a short circuiting of the current in the cell membrane can occur. This weakens the membrane and creates holes.

Another way to make a hole in a membrane is by localised oxidation or rusting. This happens when a single copper molecule, or copper ion, is released from the copper surface and hits a building block of the cell membrane (either a protein or a fatty acid). If the hit occurs in the presence of oxygen, we speak of oxidative damage, or rust. An analogy is rust weakening and making holes in a piece of metal.1,2

After punching holes, how do copper ions further damage the cell?

Now that the cells main defence (its outer envelope) has been breached, there is an unopposed stream of copper ions entering the cell. This puts several vital processes inside the cell in danger. Copper literally overwhelms the inside of the cell and obstructs cell metabolism (i.e. the biochemical reactions needed for life). These reactions are accomplished and catalysed by enzymes. When excess copper binds to these enzymes, their activity grinds to a halt. The bacterium can no longer breathe, eat, digest or create energy.1

How can coppers effect be so fast, and affect such a wide range of microorganisms?

Experts explain the speed with which bacteria perish on copper surfaces by the multi-targeted nature of coppers effects. After membrane perforation, copper can inhibit any given enzyme that stands in its way, and stop the cell from transporting or digesting nutrients, from repairing its damaged membrane, from breathing or multiplying.

It is also thought that this is why such a wide range of microorganisms are susceptible to contact action by copper.

How else may copper affect bacteria?

It has been shown that for certain types of bacteria, such as gram-positive MRSA, copper has little effect on membrane integrity, but renders the cells inactive by other mechanisms. Researchers have concluded that the likely cause of death for these organisms is interference with cell respiration and a loss of DNA integrity. However, it is unclear as to which of these two mechanisms is causal. It may well be a combination of the two and further experimentation is required.3 These findings help to explain the erroneous conclusions of certain researchers that have investigated the survival of MRSA on copper after a repeated soil and clean cycle.
